Ealing Removals

3 Often a later loft conversion

The top-floor flat

Shares The front door, the hall, every stair below you

Every floor below you is part of your move, and the last flight is almost always the worst one.

What this position in the house does to a move

The pattern in an Ealing villa is consistent: the main stair is generous, the second flight is narrower, and the flight into a converted loft is narrower again — frequently a space-saver or a steep straight run with a tiny landing at the top.

That last flight is the whole job. A wardrobe that managed the first two floors meets it and stops, and there is nowhere on a top landing to turn anything.

Where a piece will not pass, the dormer window is sometimes the answer. On an unmanaged conversion that needs the freeholder’s agreement and the neighbours’ cooperation, because the hoist stands on the shared path.

Our part

What we bring to this one

  • 1 Every flight measured, not just the first — the constraint is always the last one
  • 2 Protection on all the communal flights you pass through, not only yours
  • 3 A dismantle-and-rebuild plan agreed before anything is packed
  • 4 A hoist arranged where the dormer is the only route, with the permissions sorted first

Moving to or from the top-floor flat?

Tell us both addresses and which flat you are. If you can, photograph the communal stair from below and from the landing above — that is what decides the day.
